Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity support families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.
Born prematurely, James was in hospital for the first four months of his life with a number of complex health conditions. As soon as he was born he was transferred to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for special treatment. His parents Danielle and Chris could only visit him once he was in an incubator.
As a result of the time James spent in hospital and his subsequent diagnoses, Danielle’s mental health suffered greatly. She was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Danielle and her family were referred to Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity and began receiving support shortly after. Their Family Support Worker provided crucial support for the family when they needed it most.
"Having Rainbow Trust in our lives was truly a gift. Nothing was too much for them. We were able to see other families in similar situations to us. Our Family Support Worker was able to help us with clothing for James and to help find funding for equipment we never knew was available. She also provided transport for very important appointments and, even more important, surgeries. Nothing was too much. We could just relax – she was ‘our Nanny McPhee'" - Danielle, James' mum.
With your help Rainbow Trust Family Support Workers can make the challenges that families living with childhood illness face that bit more manageable.
